| What other benefits, in addition
to rowing can be obtained from Canford’s River Stour? The
Bags of Room group were lucky enough to use local rushes from the
River Stour to make baskets, mats, hats and even belts!
Once plucked, the rushes had to be sprayed with water in order to
keep them damp and prevent the sun from drying them out. This meant
that the rushes were pliable and easier to work with. The group
of pupils under the instruction of Mrs Parker and helped by Mrs
Byde were able to create their own everyday objects out of these
rushes.
