| Dating back to the Victorian times,
the printing press has always held a prominent role at Canford;
and yet, with years gone by, and the school forging forward with
computing technology, it seemed to have disappeared forever.
However, with this year’s Spirit of Place, lucky Canford students
have had the chance to try their hand at this age-old process. Creating
leaflets reminiscent of the last-remaining Canford-produced publication,
the group are putting together leaflets advertising a ‘Spirit
of Place Limited Edition’ featuring poems from around the
Park. Printed with ink produced by the Chemistry department –
which is also for sale – the adverts are being handmade, one-by-one,
by the students.
Using the printing press, kindly lent to Canford for the few days
of Spirit of Place, the new age of computing seems a world away
from the labour-some means of printing in the Victorian times.
Make sure you make your way to the library to experience this original
spectacle.
