This project, hosted by Paul Thomas,
Author of Foundation Course in Drawing (www.paulthomaspaintings.co.uk),
and inventor of Subjective Drawing, was an interesting project to
say the least.
The aim was ‘Trying to do something unpredictable in a predictable
arena.’
The 12 pupils started with a white board, or ‘arena’,
6 foot long, 4 foot wide about the size of a small person. Only
drawing marks, lines and shapes were allowed to be drawn.
Drawing objectively, the pupils were confirming things they were
familiar with and are close to objects/people in their life. Looking
for the proportion between light and dark, the pupils don’t
know what the content of their drawing will be.
Paul Thomas hopes that ‘their drawing will be an arena in
which there is a microcosm (a miniature version) of their world’.
